New Jersey’s voting controversy is making headlines yet again as Gov. Mikie Sherrill responds to House Republican’s order for her administration to hand over records.
The order was made in response to reports regarding thousands of noncitizens being illegally registered to vote.
Sherrill said the issue occurred under her predecessor’s watch due to a New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission software glitch.
House Republicans say they want to know why the error wasn’t addressed until this year.
Sherrill has fired back at the subpoena issued this week, calling it “political theater.”
"Instead of actually doing anything to make our elections safer or addressing issues Americans care about, like skyrocketing prices, Washington Republicans are choosing to play political games just thirteen days before the midterm elections,” she said in a release.
Sherrill argues that this is a clear partisan move, “something no other administration would have done.”
"I promised that when we discover a problem, we communicate the facts and fix it - and I meant it. From the moment we discovered the MVC registration issue from 2023, we took action immediately, went above and beyond in making agency-wide reforms, and have been transparent every step of the way,” she explained.
