Two people suffered minor injuries Friday morning after an SUV flipped onto its side and slammed into gas pumps at a local service station in Elmwood Park.
Emergency personnel responded to the Delta Gas station at 353 River Dr. around 10:51 a.m. following reports of a vehicle crash. Upon arrival, police and firefighters found a 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe lodged on its side between the fuel pumps and another vehicle actively being filled.
Firefighters expedited their response after officers observed a minor amount of smoke coming from the overturned Tahoe. Emergency crews immediately shut off power to the gas pumps as a safety precaution to prevent potential fires or leaks.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the driver of the Tahoe—a 59-year-old man from Fairfield—may have suffered a medical episode prior to the crash. Police said initial reports also indicate the driver was attempting to avoid hitting a pedestrian in the roadway.
The driver of the second vehicle and a gas station attendant sustained minor injuries in the collision. Both were transported to local hospitals for evaluation and treatment. The driver of the Tahoe was evaluated by medical personnel on scene and released.
