A major donation is giving a boost to efforts to fight hunger in Monmouth and Ocean counties.

The FirstEnergy Foundation awarded a $250,000 grant to Fulfill as Hunger Action Month comes to a close. The funding will help the food bank continue providing food assistance and connect families with resources aimed at promoting long-term stability.

The grant was presented during a volunteer event in Neptune, where Jersey Central Power & Light employees helped unpack donations and pack food boxes.

"To be able to help out and provide assistance to families in need is a core responsibility we have at FirstEnergy," a company representative said. "We just endured a storm. Our partners at JCP&L know the type of hardship that creates, so the timing of this could not be better."

FirstEnergy said the $250,000 award is the largest Hunger Action Month grant the foundation made in New Jersey this year.
