One year after two 17-year-old high school students were killed while riding an e-bike, their families and community members gathered for a candlelight vigil Tuesday evening to honor their lives and demand transparency in the ongoing legal proceedings.

Loved ones of Isabella Salas and Maria Niotis assembled at 6:30 p.m. on Burnside Avenue, where the two young women were struck and killed on Sept. 29, 2025.

Nearly 12 months after the tragedy, family members expressed growing frustration with the pace of the investigation and prosecution. They raised concerns about how the case has been handled by law enforcement and called for full accountability.

A 17-year-old driver was taken into custody shortly after the crash and was subsequently charged with first-degree murder. The case was recently waived to adult court, though grand jury proceedings remain ongoing.

Family members said they organized the vigil not only to share memories and celebrate the lives of Isabella and Maria, but also to urge state and local officials to ensure the investigation remains transparent and subject to public scrutiny.
