An elementary school in Lindenwold is closed today after a fire broke out in the building Tuesday evening.
The school district posted a message on social media Tuesday night announcing the closure.
“This evening, there was a fire at our School 4 location. At the time of the incident, members of our evening facilities crew and a construction crew were on site,” the district said. “We are very grateful that everyone is safe.”
Officials say they are still assessing the situation at the building, where construction has been underway since the summer. The work included the installation of a new HVAC system. On Sept. 1, officials posted photos on social media showing furniture being moved back into the building in preparation for the new school year.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The district said it will continue to provide updates for families and staff as more information becomes available.
