A possible cargo spill or accident prompted an emergency response Tuesday morning along Route 1 in South Brunswick.

Police and tow trucks were called to the area between Northumberland Way and Deans Lane.

First responders focused their efforts in a wooded area just off the northbound side of Route 1.

The incident appeared to have occurred, or at least ended, in the wooded area.

Both northbound lanes remained open, and no traffic backups were reported.

Southbound traffic was not affected.

There was no immediate word on injuries.

The scene was cleared by 6 a.m., and all emergency crews left the area.
