Suspicious packages were sent to at least two New Jersey lawmakers.
News 12 has confirmed that packages were sent to Reps. Bonnie Watson Coleman, Robert Menendez and Frank Pallone’s New Jersey offices.
Ewing Township police confirm that a package was sent to Watson Coleman’s office.
“My District Office has been closed for the day after we received a suspicious package. If you need to reach my team please call my D.C. office. We will resume regular hours on Monday,” Watson Coleman wrote on X.
A New Jersey State Police hazmat team responded to the incident and seized the package, according to the department. No one was injured.
Menendez posted on X that his office in Jersey City was temporarily closed after receiving a package.
“The substance was determined to be non-hazardous, and our office has resumed normal operations. I am grateful to the Hudson County Sheriff’s Office and other first responders for their prompt response and for keeping our staff, office and community safe,” he wrote in the post.
A spokesperson for Pallone’s office says that the package sent to his office contained a white powder.
“The letter was post marked from TX but had a NY return address. Thankfully, the substance was tested and determined not to be hazardous,” a spokesperson for Pallone wrote in a statement.
The incidents come amid a string of suspicious mailings to representatives across the country, including multiple representatives in the tri-state.
