Two 11-month-old beagles are getting their first taste of freedom — and now need a permanent home — after being rescued from an animal testing laboratory.
The pair. named Sugar and Honey, were recently brought into care after spending the first 11 months of their lives inside a research facility. Shelter staff say the young dogs are learning how to walk on grass, play with toys, and adjust to human affection for the very first time.
Both dogs weigh around 15 pounds and bear small identification tattoos inside their ears from their time in the lab.
Despite their hesitant start, caregivers report that both pups have already begun wagging their tails, seeking pets, and showing early play behaviors.
Animal welfare organizations note that beagles are the most common dog breed utilized in laboratory testing due to their gentle, trusting, and docile temperaments.
Shelter staff say Sugar and Honey can be adopted together or placed into separate mellow homes, ideally with another friendly dog to help guide them. Visiting hours for prospective adopters open daily starting at 12 p.m.
