The 93-year-old driver accused of crashing into the outdoor dining area of Meg's Grill over the weekend and killing a fire chief's wife will not face criminal charges.

The Lavallette Police Department said on Wednesday that after consulting with the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office, no criminal charges will be filed against Jean S. Chomuk of Lavallette, but she was issued a summons for careless driving.

Police say they also submitted a driver examination request to the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission recommending she submit to a driver reexamination.

As News 12 previously reported, police say Chomuk hit the accelerator instead of the brake while attempting to park, crashing her vehicle into the restaurant's outdoor dining area and killing 56-year-old Ursula Keating, who was eating outside at the time.

Seven others were injured in the crash.
