McDonald's is seeking approval to demolish and rebuild its restaurant along Route 4 in Fair Lawn, with plans calling for a new dual-lane drive-through.
The proposal for 37-01 Broadway includes a 3,724-square-foot restaurant with 36 indoor seats and 21 parking spaces,
according to minutes from the borough's June 1 Zoning Board meeting.
The proposed drive-through would feature two side-by-side ordering lanes that merge into one lane leading to three service windows.
The existing restaurant has approximately 3,800 square feet and 42 parking spaces, according to testimony presented to the board.
Plans also call for new landscaping, upgraded lighting and pedestrian improvements.
McDonald's previously received approval in 2024 for a renovation and addition at the property, but that project was never built. The company returned to the
Zoning Board this year with plans for a complete rebuild.
Although the existing McDonald's has a drive-through, the proposed rebuild requires zoning variances because that use is not permitted under the property's current zoning.
During the June 1 hearing, board members raised questions about parking, pedestrian safety, delivery truck access and the building's appearance.
The application remains pending. The borough confirmed Monday that the proposed approval resolution was not adopted and that McDonald's is scheduled to return before the board Oct. 26.
