A driver on Route 130 in South Brunswick safely pulled over after noticing smoke coming from his vehicle Wednesday afternoon, only to discover it was on fire.
Police say the driver called authorities around 3:15 p.m. By the time officers arrived, the vehicle was fully engulfed in flames on the shoulder of the highway near Deans Rhode Hall Road.
Police shut down the northbound lanes for approximately 20 minutes while the Monmouth Junction Fire Department extinguished the blaze.
The driver was able to pull over safely and was not injured.
