A 13-year-old girl died Sunday after being struck by a vehicle while riding a scooter on Route 130 in Bordentown on Friday, according to officials.
The Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office confirmed the location of the crash. Township officials announced the Bordentown Regional Middle School student’s death in a statement to the community Sunday.
"Police, Fire, and EMS rushed to care for her, and she was airlifted to Cooper University Hospital in Camden, where she succumbed to her injuries this morning," officials said. "No words can ease a loss like this."
Officials said the community and first responders who assisted the girl are "heartbroken" by her death.
"We are holding her family, friends, and classmates close in our thoughts as they grieve," officials said.
The township is working with the school district to make counselors available to students and residents affected by the student’s death. The Burlington County Crisis Response Team will be at the middle school this week to provide support.
The exact circumstances of the crash have not been released. Authorities said the driver remained at the scene and was questioned by investigators.
