A 72‑year‑old woman is dead following a late‑night collision on Route 9 earlier this week.
The Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office announced Friday that the victim has been identified as Deborah Ross.
The incident occurred on Tuesday, April 7, at approximately 10:56 p.m. Manalapan Police officers were dispatched to the southbound lanes of Route 9, specifically in the area of Russell Court and the 355 Route 9 business corridor.
A preliminary investigation revealed that a male driver was operating a 2018 Nissan Frontier in the left lane when his vehicle struck Ross. The impact propelled her across the lanes to the right shoulder of the roadway.
Ross was pronounced deceased at the scene at 11:26 p.m., exactly 30 minutes after the initial police dispatch.
The driver of the Nissan remained at the scene following the crash and cooperated with authorities. As of Friday morning, the Prosecutor's Office confirmed that no criminal charges or traffic summonses have been issued in connection with the incident.
Authorities are asking anyone who may have witnessed the collision or has information that could assist the investigation to come forward.
