Police have arrested a juvenile in connection with an acid attack in Jersey City that left six people injured, including three teenagers.
Authorities say the incident happened just after 7 p.m. Monday on Wilkinson Avenue, when two individuals drove by and threw a substance, believed to be sulfuric acid, at a group of people standing outside.
All six victims suffered skin burns and peeling, according to police. They are expected to recover.
The scene prompted a heavy emergency response, including a HAZMAT team, as crews worked to determine the type of chemical involved.
Neighbors say they heard screams during the chaotic moments following the attack.
Emilia Sanchez, a witness, recalled hearing a victim tell responders, “They threw acid at us.”
Sanchez also said the attack happened after a verbal argument escalated into a fight right outside her home.
Police say the investigation remains ongoing as they continue working to identify and locate all individuals involved.
All six victims remain hospitalized and are expected to recover.
