If you were caught in some of the dreadful traffic that drivers encountered while heading into Hoboken Friday at Marin Boulevard, you were one of the many commuting victims of a nearby water main break.
A 20-inch water main was cracked by a construction crew working overnight which flooded an area of Jersey Avenue along the border of Jersey City and Hoboken. That portion of Jersey Avenue is one of the most often used roadways to get to and from Hoboken.
The broken pipe caused a loss of water in Jersey City.
“My water was brown this morning. I know a few people where there water is completely off.” It’s really a pain it really interrupts our day-to-day living. I have a dog and we can’t use the faucet to give her water," said Tonianne Artificio.
She was one of a number of people walking from Hoboken back home to Jersey City.
"This is a huge deal when this section of closes down because so many people travel from Jersey City to the Hoboken PATH," said Morgan Nover.
Nover was explaining that because Jersey Avenue was closed, those who take shuttles from Jersey City apartments to the PATH in the morning had an hour long ride instead of the usual 10 minutes.
Later in the afternoon, Jersey City residents were telling News 12 that water had returned to their homes, which was right around the time Veolia Waters had isolated the broken pipe.
