Two firefighters were injured and several residents were displaced early Monday after a fire broke out at an apartment building in Hoboken.
The fire was reported around 3 a.m. at a multi-story building on the 300 block of Hudson Street, city officials said.
Crews found fire in the rear of a six-unit, four-story building, said Ken Ferrante, the director of public safety for the City of Hoboken.
All 10 residents were able to get out safely, and some were seen carrying their pets.
A warming center was set up for displaced residents.
The fire was brought under control by about 5 a.m. Bitter cold weather conditions caused the water used to fight the fire to freeze, creating hazardous conditions.
Slip-and-fall hazards and frozen hose lines were major concerns for firefighters, said Hoboken Fire Chief Brian Crimmins.
Two Jersey City firefighters providing mutual aid were taken to the hospital, the fire chief said.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
