Officials: Camden City firefighter dies after falling into icy Delaware River
A veteran Camden City firefighter died after falling into the icy Delaware River, according to city officials.
Camden City Fire Chief Jesse Flax said during a news conference that the incident happened around 11:30 a.m. Thursday. He says the firefighter was performing a routine maintenance check on a fireboat when he fell into the water. Further details were not provided.
The name of the firefighter was not released, but Camden Mayor Victor Carstarphen referred to him as a husband and father.
Carstarphen said the city will help provide support to the firefighter’s family, as well as to the Camden City Fire Department.
