There is no parking or tailgating allowed at MetLife Stadium for the FIFA World Cup, but there is limited offsite parking over at American Dream Mall - for a price.
There are usually more than 25,000 parking spots at the stadium, but FIFA has other plans. All that space is being used for a temporary bus terminal, plus on-site fan activities and a major security presence.
Limited parking is available at the adjacent American Dream mall. The DOT had previously said it’s about 5,000 spots. These spots cost $225. Parking for the World Final has already been sold out for months.
Matchgoers must purchase ahead of time - they cannot buy parking day-of on-location.
As for the drive itself, the DOT is telling drivers to expect extra congestion all over the state on gamedays, including I-95 and Routes 3, 17 and 495.
The fans who buy parking passes will park at American Dream's Lot A and walk to the stadium using footbridge tunnels over Route 120. The parking website says the nearly-one-mile walk will take 17 minutes.
There is handicapped-accessible parking in one of the stadium lots.
FIFA parking at American Dream will open four hours before kickoff. Visitors are urged to arrive up to three hours early.
Guests will only be allowed into Lot A or over the footbridge by showing a World Cup ticket. American Dream said there is technology in place from the NFL season to keep matchgoers from parking in other mall lots at the standard price without paying the event parking price.
