Guinness is New Jersey’s most popular beer, according to a new analysis of online search interest.
Innerbody Research analyzed a year of Google Trends data for 36 prominent beers to determine the most popular brew in each state and Washington, D.C. The report, updated Aug. 6, found Guinness generated the strongest interest in New Jersey.
New Jersey was part of an East Coast pocket of Guinness fans. The Irish stout also ranked first in Connecticut, Rhode Island and Maryland.
Nationwide, Michelob Ultra ranked as the most popular beer based on overall search interest, followed by Bud Light and Stella Artois. Guinness ranked fifth nationally. Stella Artois, however, took the top spot in more individual states and jurisdictions than any other beer, leading in 12.
The analysis also ranked states by their overall search interest in major beer brands. New Jersey placed 34th among the 50 states and Washington, D.C., with Wisconsin ranking first.
The rankings reflect Google search interest rather than beer sales or consumption.
