The website and the app for Stop & Shop have been pulled offline by its parent company following a cyberattack on Monday that corrupted the entire network. It’s an attack that affects millions of customers loyal to the grocery chain including New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Maryland.
Customers logging into the website or the app will see a message that says, ”We are working to restore service as quickly as possible. Any unfulfilled orders will be refunded.”
At the Stop & Shop in Hackensack, some customers said they were not able to access their rewards on Tuesday. Other loyal customers are fully aware that a cyberattack could bring about the potential for their credit card information on file with the store being stolen.
It's recommended customers keep an eye on any cards used at Stop & Shop to check for any strange activity.
“That’s definitely a concern because I know my email address is attached to the card, my phone number...I know that’s not exactly Social Security number but it certain too close for comfort," said Diana Brown, of Ho-Ho-Kus.
“I seemed a little concerned because I usually use Apple Pay and I use my debit card all the time so I don’t if it has anything to do with it all and I haven’t checked my bank account," said loyal customer Veronica Campoverde.
The grocery chain is owned by a company from the Netherlands, which said their other stores including Food Lion, Giant Food and Hannaford were also impacted.
The parent company, Ahold Delhaize said it is still trying to work this out.
It said, "Protecting our infrastructure in the best interest of our customers, associates and partners is a top priority.”
