A person has been arrested in connection with Tuesday night's fatal shooting on the George Washington Bridge, according to NYPD officials.
Victor Romero, 62, of Haverstraw, New York, has been arrested and charged with murder. Romero is a former detective at the Narcotics Borough Brooklyn North. His service with the department started in February 1994.
A police source says Romero was located by NYPD officers and did not turn himself in.
The victim has been identified as 46-year-old Koran Irvine, of Valley Cottage, New York. Officials say he was shot and killed while driving on the outbound upper level of the bridge around 7 p.m.
Sources tell News 12 the shooting may have stemmed from an apparent road rage incident.
Authorities initially responded to what was reported as a single-vehicle crash. When officers arrived, they found Irvine unconscious and unresponsive inside his vehicle with a gunshot wound to the rear right shoulder.
Irvine was transported to Englewood Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Sources say Irvine recently celebrated his 20th anniversary working for Con Edison.
In a statement, Con Edison said, "We are heartbroken by the tragic loss of a member of the Con Edison family in this senseless act of violence. Our deepest condolences go out to his family, friends, colleagues, and everyone who knew and loved him."
The shooting prompted a lengthy police investigation that backed up traffic for miles on both sides of the George Washington Bridge during the evening commute. Traffic has since returned to normal.
