U.S. Rep. Jeff Van Drew said Monday that South Jersey will receive $99 million in federal funding from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for beach replenishment projects in several shore communities.

Van Drew said the funding will support work in Ocean City, Strathmere, Sea Isle City, Avalon and Stone Harbor. He described it as the largest investment in New Jersey beach projects in a year without a hurricane and the biggest such investment since Superstorm Sandy.

In a statement, Van Drew said he had worked with the Army Corps to make South Jersey a priority and said the funding would provide stronger protection and stability for shoreline communities.

He also said more than $5 million in additional dredging funding is slated for projects on the Salem River, Maurice River, Cold Spring Inlet and the New Jersey Intracoastal Waterway, along with continued work to deepen the Salem and Maurice rivers.

Van Drew said support was also secured to move forward with a redesign of the Wildwoods project.

He said he is continuing to seek another $70 million through the fiscal year 2027 appropriations process for beach projects in Long Beach Island and Atlantic City, as well as funding for erosion mitigation structures and an extension of the seawall in North Brigantine.
