For one afternoon, a South Jersey nonprofit gave young baseball players a chance to take the field at one of the most picturesque ballparks in the state. The baseball field at Rutgers University–Camden sits in the shadow of Philadelphia’s Ben Franklin Bridge, providing a unique backdrop for a day of baseball and fun. On the field were kids from Luke’s Place, a South Jersey nonprofit that creates opportunities and experiences for people with special needs. The kids got to step up to the plate, take some swings and enjoy a day at the ballpark surrounded by their friends, families and supporters. Adding to the excitement, the Philadelphia Phillies’ beloved Phillie Phanatic made an appearance, cheering on the young players and helping make the day even more memorable.
