A Newark man has been arrested in connection with an August home invasion in which suspects allegedly posed as FBI agents and stole $7,500 from a woman's apartment, police announced.
Samuel Prata, 42, faces charges of burglary, theft, criminal restraint, impersonating a public servant and conspiracy, according to Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda.
As News 12 previously reported, three men allegedly approached the victim's third-floor apartment on Mott Street near Raymond Boulevard on Aug. 27, claimed to be federal agents and demanded that she open the door.
When the woman opened the door, the men rushed inside and pushed her onto a couch, police said. One held her down while two masked accomplices searched the apartment, taking $7,500 from a bedroom safe and two credit cards from her purse.
A fourth suspect waited outside in a black Toyota Camry Solara. The group fled in the vehicle, which had out-of-state license plates, traveling east on Fleming Avenue.
Police are still seeking the three remaining suspects and ask anyone with information to call the department's anonymous Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-695-8477.
