Somerset County authorities are investigating a homicide case after two women and a man were found dead Friday evening inside a Montgomery Township home.
Montgomery police initially responded to the home on Wild Azalea Lane Thursday around 3 p.m. after receiving a request to check on its occupants. Officers were unable to contact anyone and began looking into their whereabouts.
Police entered the home Friday around 5:50 p.m. and found two adult women dead in separate bedrooms, both with apparent gunshot wounds, according to Somerset County Prosecutor John McDonald.
An adult man was also found dead inside the home with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Authorities said he was found in possession of a firearm.
All three were pronounced dead at the scene.
Neighbors said they noticed signs that something was wrong in the days leading up to the discovery.
Several packages and pieces of mail had accumulated near the front door and some residents said they had not seen members of the family outside for days.
"I'm always walking and I didn't see them this week," said one neighbor. "I didn't pay attention."
The deaths have shocked residents in the normally quiet neighborhood.
"I grew up in this neighborhood for over 30 years and nothing I can remember has ever happened like this," said another neighbor. "They seemed like a regular family with children that they were raising. It was very sad."
According to residents, a mother, father and young adult daughter lived at the home.
The identities of the deceased have not been released pending confirmation by the medical examiner.
Postmortem exams are planned to determine the cause and manner of death.
