A Long Branch police officer is recovering after being stabbed while responding to a domestic dispute over the weekend.

The New Jersey State Policemen's Benevolent Association says Officer Geter Benitez was stabbed in the head while trying to stop a suspect from attacking a woman.

Benitez was taken to a hospital for treatment following the incident.

The PBA says he was released from the hospital Monday.

Officials have not released additional details about the suspect or the circumstances leading up to the stabbing.
