A juvenile faces murder and weapons charges in connection with the shooting death of a boy in Lakewood Monday night.
Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer said police responded to Pearl Street at 8:17 p.m. for reports of a male with a gunshot wound. Officers found a juvenile male shot in the back. He was taken to Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus in Lakewood, where he was pronounced dead.
“An investigation by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit, Lakewood Township Police Department, and Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit revealed that a juvenile was responsible for shooting and killing the victim,” Billhimer said.
The suspect was taken into custody and is being held at the Ocean County Juvenile Detention Center.
No additional information on the suspect or victim has been released.
