On Sept. 10, 2001, Thomas Gorman donated blood. The next day, his life would be lost at the World Trade Center.

Twenty-five years later, that has become something far more profound.

On Sept. 10, 2026, volunteers came to the hospital to give blood in memory of Thomas and his younger brother, John Gorman, two brothers whose lives were forever changed by the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.

Thomas, who lived in Middlesex, was a Port Authority Police officer. He was killed when the towers collapsed.

His brother John was working in the North Tower. He survived.

Fifteen years later, John died of cancer attributed to his exposure to the toxins at ground zero.

Their family has since returned to RWJ Somerset over the years to hold blood drives in memory of both brothers.

To mark 25 years since 9/11, there's another blood drive on Friday. It's happening in Jersey City at the Hyatt Regency.

Last year's event collected 188 units of blood enough to potentially save more than 560 lives.
