Fiery truck crash leads to delays, closures on I-80
A tractor-trailer overturned and erupted in flames late Tuesday night on I-80 in Allamuchy, prompting first responders to shut down some lanes on the busy highway.
Emergency crews responded to the crash in the westbound lanes of I-80 around 11:30 p.m. Members of the Allamuchy Fire Department quickly brought the blaze under control after the cab of the overturned tractor-trailer caught fire.
Firefighters and a hazmat team also worked to contain and mitigate a substantial fuel spill resulting from the crash, the Allamuchy Fire Department said in a statement. Fire crews from Green Township and Hope Township also responded to assist at the scene.
The fire department said local EMS crews responded to provide medical care to "the injured parties," although authorities have not yet released information about the extent of the injuries.
As crews continued firefighting and cleanup operations, westbound I-80 remained closed at Exit 19. The New Jersey Department of Transportation said some lane closures continued early Wednesday morning. Motorists were advised to avoid the area and seek alternate routes while cleanup and recovery efforts continued.
