Police have closed a busy roadway in Kearny as teams from the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office investigate a fatal, early morning crash.

In a post on social media, the prosecutor's office confirmed the ongoing investigation into the crash, which happened around 4 a.m. On Newark-Jersey City Turnpike.

"The Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit is responding to a fatal crash on Newark Jersey City Turnpike in Kearny," the post said. "Motorists are advised to avoid the area through the morning commute."

Officials did not have any details regarding the number of fatalities, the number of vehicles involved or the cause of the crash.

Kearny police are urging motorists to avoid the area. Drivers often use Newark-Jersey City Turnpike - also known as County Road 508 - to get to the New Jersey Turnpike and I-280.
