River Edge Volunteer firefighters were dispatched to Midland Avenue after live wires were found along the street.
Upon arrival, firefighters found that a two-and-a-half-story building had been engulfed in flames.
Officials say the fire was hampered by the live wires and water pressure issues, as well as a large tree that took down a nearby telephone pole.
Officials added that several trees and telephone poles were down in the area of the fire.
When pulling the wires from the home, two smaller basement fires in nearby homes were extinguished.
Officials stated that the main fire was contained at 11 p.m. and the entire fire was extinguished at 2 a.m.
Two firefighters were taken to a hospital for treatment but have since been released.
