A school bus carrying 10 children caught fire Wednesday afternoon in Newark, but no injuries were reported after the driver extinguished the flames, authorities said.
Police and firefighters responded to Colleen Street and Stuyvesant Avenue at about 3:26 p.m. on a report of a bus fire, according to Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda.
Before emergency crews arrived, the bus driver used an onboard fire extinguisher to put out flames that were seen coming from the vehicle’s brake line, officials said.
All 10 children on board were unharmed. No additional information was immediately available.
