A driver was critically injured and a child was among four people hospitalized following a three-vehicle crash Thursday morning in Hillsborough, according to the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office.
The crash occurred around 7:50 a.m. on Amwell Road near Cpl. Langon Way, about a block from Hillsborough High School. The crash prompted emergency crews to shut down local roads.
Investigators said a Nissan SUV traveling east on Amwell Road appeared to cross the centerline, striking a westbound Ford SUV and then a Dodge minivan traveling in the same direction.
The Nissan's driver, an adult man from Hillsborough, was flown to a trauma hospital and was listed in critical condition, prosecutors said.
The Dodge minivan was a school transport vehicle. Its driver and a juvenile female passenger were taken to a hospital, along with the driver of the Ford SUV.
Prosecutors said the Ford and Dodge drivers were in stable condition. The child was receiving medical care, but authorities did not provide details about her condition.
Multiple police, fire and EMS units from Hillsborough, along with emergency personnel from Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, responded to the scene. A medical helicopter landed at nearby Hillsborough High School.
Two vehicles could be seen at the intersection, including an SUV and a school van, both with airbags deployed. A tire and other debris were visible near the curb.
The Somerset County Collision Analysis Reconstruction Team and Hillsborough police are investigating the crash.
