A 71-year-old Cliffside Park man has been charged with assault by auto and driving while intoxicated after a crash in Bogota that left his passenger seriously injured, authorities announced Monday.
Yun S. Kang was driving a 2018 Kia south on Queen Anne Road around 8:35 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30, when he struck a legally parked, unoccupied vehicle near Maple Street, causing the Kia to roll onto its side, according to the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office.
Kang and his passenger, a 70-year-old Fairview man, were trapped inside the vehicle and had to be extricated by responding officers.
The passenger suffered serious injuries and remained hospitalized in stable condition as of Monday, prosecutors said. Kang was not injured.
Investigators suspected Kang was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash.
Kang was charged Saturday with assault by auto, driving while intoxicated and related motor vehicle offenses.
He was taken to the Bergen County Jail and appeared in Superior Court in Hackensack before being released pending further court proceedings.
