Burlington Township man indicted on child sexual abuse material charges
A 38-year-old Burlington Township man has been indicted after prosecutors said he posed as a teenage boy online to persuade underage girls to send him sexually explicit images and videos.
Kareem Abdel-Rahman was indicted by a grand jury on charges including causing or permitting a child to create child sexual abuse material, distribution and possession of child sexual abuse material, aggravated sexual extortion, debauching the morals of a child and providing obscenity to a minor, the Burlington County Prosecutor's Office announced Wednesday.
The investigation began after the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children alerted the Burlington County Prosecutor's Office to Abdel-Rahman's online activities, authorities said.
Investigators allege Abdel-Rahman used social media platforms to communicate with multiple underage girls while pretending to be a teenage boy. He allegedly sent them pornographic material and asked them to create and send sexually explicit images and videos of themselves.
At least two girls complied, prosecutors said. One allegedly sent material after Abdel-Rahman, whom she believed was another minor, threatened to kill himself if she refused.
Authorities also allege Abdel-Rahman shared and traded the material he received, distributing more than 30,000 images and videos of child sexual abuse material over three years using Snapchat and Telegram.
Abdel-Rahman has been held in the Burlington County Jail since his arrest in late August. An arraignment will be scheduled.
Investigators are seeking additional potential victims. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Burlington County Prosecutor's Office.
