A bear that prompted an emergency response after climbing a tree in an Elizabeth neighborhood has been safely captured, city officials said Monday.
The bear had been perched in a tree near residents and emergency crews, drawing attention from neighbors and officials in the area.
New Jersey Fish & Wildlife officials safely captured the bear Monday afternoon, according to a city spokesperson.
“The bear will now be sedated and transported from the area with assistance from emergency personnel on scene,” the spokesperson said.
Emergency crews remained on scene during the operation while officials worked to safely remove the animal from the neighborhood.
