A 7-year-old boy has died after a gas-powered minibike he was riding collided with a sedan Sunday afternoon.

The crash happened around 5 p.m. Sunday near the intersection of Massachusetts and Melrose avenues in Atlantic City, police said.

According to police, a 2012 blue Nissan Altima collided with the minibike carrying the child. The driver of the Nissan stayed at the scene, and both vehicles were impounded for further examination.

Emergency responders took the boy to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center. He was then airlifted to Cooper University Hospital in Camden, where he died, police said.

The Atlantic City Police Department and the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office are investigating the crash.
