2 Jersey City women charged in hit-and-run that injured multiple juveniles
Two Jersey City women have been charged in connection with a hit-and-run that injured multiple juveniles in Jersey City last year, authorities said.
Tamara Tyre, 32, and Yolanda Tyre, 56, both of Jersey City, were arrested following an investigation into the Oct. 6, 2025 crash, the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office said.
Shortly after 5 p.m. that day, the Jersey City Police Department responded to Wilkinson Avenue between Ocean Avenue and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive on a report of multiple people struck by a vehicle, police said.
Officers found four male juveniles — ages 13, 15 and two 17-year-olds, all of Jersey City — who had been struck while operating or occupying two motorized vehicles or mopeds. A fifth juvenile victim was later identified. A sedan that hit them fled the scene, authorities said.
Investigators identified Tamara Tyre as the driver of the Hyundai sedan involved in the crash and Yolanda Tyre as a passenger.
Tamara Tyre is charged with five counts each of aggravated assault, endangering an injured victim, endangering the welfare of a child and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, as well as three counts of assault by auto resulting in serious bodily injury.
She also faces charges of knowingly leaving the scene of a motor vehicle collision resulting in serious bodily injury, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and obstruction.
She was arrested Monday at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office in Secaucus and taken to the Hudson County Correctional Facility pending her first court appearance, officials said.
Yolanda Tyre is charged with false reporting to law enforcement and obstruction. Authorities say she falsely identified a different individual as the passenger in the vehicle.
She was arrested Wednesday at home and taken to the county jail pending her first court appearance.
