A 14-year-old girl was seriously injured Friday evening in a collision involving an electric bicycle and a minivan in the Township of Hamilton, Atlantic County, police said.

The crash happened around 5:50 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16, on Route 40 near Walmart Drive.

According to police, the girl, who is from Mays Landing, was riding an e-bike along the eastbound shoulder before entering the travel lane, where she collided with a 2008 Chrysler Town and Country driven by 65-year-old Brian Portnoy of Egg Harbor Township.

Emergency crews took the girl to the Hamilton Mall parking lot, where she was airlifted by a New Jersey State Police helicopter to Atlantic City Medical Center's City Division with serious injuries.

Police said no traffic summonses have been issued.
