Earning a spot on the US Open Ball Crew is a highly competitive and rewarding opportunity, especially for tri-state residents who can commute to the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Queens, New York.
The US Open is the only Grand Slam that pays its ball crew. Members are outfitted by Ralph Lauren with exclusive designer apparel, which they often get to keep. They also receive meal allowances, free tournament access and the unique experience of working courtside with the world’s top tennis players.
Competition for the role is intense, with more than 1,500 applicants vying for only 100 to 150 positions each year.
Applicants must be at least 14 years old, apply online, attend summer tryouts and commit to the tournament’s full three-week schedule.
The job is physically demanding, requiring long hours on your feet, quick sprints across the court, and the ability to perform in hot late-summer conditions.
The program is currently full, but applications for the 2027 US Open Ball Crew will open in April.
