Getting to work can be one of the most stressful parts of the day for many New Jersey commuters. But one Hoboken woman says she's found a way to make the most of the time she spends getting there.
Julia Bogaenko boards the NJ Transit 126 bus at Washington and Ninth streets in Hoboken for the trip to Port Authority Bus Terminal in Manhattan every weekday morning.
"The most convenient for me. It's the most cost-effective," Bogaenko said.
The ride through the Lincoln Tunnel takes about 15 to 20 minutes on a typical day. But like many commuters, she's experienced the unpredictable delays that come with traveling into New York City.
"The longest amount of time I think it's taken me, like an hour. But that's when a car is broken down in the tunnel and there's nothing you can do," she said.
Rather than viewing the commute as lost time, Bogaenko uses it to get ahead before her workday even begins. As a content creator, she edits videos, checks notifications and prepares posts while she rides the bus.
"I'll edit my videos in the morning before I get into work, and then I'll post them in the afternoon," she said.
Bogaenko still has about a 15-minute walk through Times Square before she reaches her office after arriving at the Port Authority. Altogether, her door-to-office commute takes about 50 minutes.
Despite the occasional delay, she says it's a major improvement over her previous commute, which took nearly two hours each way.
"I know a lot of people complain about New Jersey Transit, but this commute is kind of a dream compared to the old commute that I would do," she said.
Bogaenko says a commute can shape the rest of the day.
"No matter how long or short it is, you have to kind of run your life by it. If your commute is somewhat delayed, you can have a bad day, and if it's super smooth, you can have a really good day. It kind of sets the tone for the day for me."
For Bogaenko, the daily trip to work isn't just about getting from point A to point B—it's become an opportunity to stay productive and start each day on the right foot.
