The recent nor’easter left a significant mark along the Jersey Shore, prompting the state to take a closer look at damage to beaches and dunes.
The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection released its assessment of beach and dune erosion following the storm.
Experts examined more than 200 locations before and after the nor’easter, identifying 81 areas of concern.
Of those locations:
  • 53 had minor erosion, including beaches in Asbury Park and Lavallette.
  • 18 had moderate erosion, including areas in Manasquan and South Seaside Park.
  • 10 experienced major erosion, including Sea Bright, Bay Head and locations along Long Beach Island.
Cliffwood Beach was also among the areas classified as having major erosion.
According to the DEP, the beach berm and dune in Cliffwood Beach were severely damaged. The storm also pushed sand onto Ocean Boulevard, while debris and other damage were reported on nearby roads and basketball courts.
The findings offer a closer look at the impact the nor’easter had along the Jersey Shore and identify areas that may require additional attention as communities assess storm damage.
