A house fire heavily damaged a home in Red Bank early Thursday morning and remains under investigation.
The Red Bank Fire Department said crews responded to a home on Chestnut Street around 2:30 a.m.
Mutual aid crews from Middletown, Sea Bright, Little Silver and Fair Haven assisted at the scene.
The Red Bank Fire Chief says the River Plaza RIT Team set up ladders to assist firefighters.
"They put the ground ladders up at the windows where the firefighters are inside working so if something happens and they need to get out of the house quickly, the ladders are already there in position so they can get out and get down the ladders," said Chief Michael Welsh.
Welsh told News 12 one firefighter was checked out by EMS on the scene but is okay and everyone living inside the two family home made it out safely on their own.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, no exact cause was given.
"They are looking at electrical issue down at the air conditioning units at the rear of the structure, that seems to be where the fire started," said Welsh.
Nine people in two families are receiving Red Cross emergency financial assistance to help with temporary lodging, food, clothing and other immediate needs.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
