NJ Transit launches free ride service for seniors, people with disabilities in South Jersey
NJ Transit announced launch of a free, on-demand transportation service for seniors and people with disabilities in Camden and Gloucester counties.
The CG Hopper is an 18-month pilot program offering curb-to-curb rides within designated service areas. The service is operated by Via in partnership with Senior Citizens United Community Services and the two counties.
Residents aged 60 and older and people with disabilities who live in either county are eligible. Existing riders of participating transportation programs will be automatically enrolled, while new riders must complete a one-time registration. Those qualifying based on disability must provide medical verification.
Riders can book trips through the CG Hopper app, a web app or by phone. They may travel with a companion or personal care attendant, and service animals are permitted.
The service uses five accessible Toyota Sienna minivans and provides connections to NJ Transit buses, trains, light rail and Access Link service areas.
NJ Transit said the pilot will offer extended service hours and cross-county transportation options. Rutgers University's Alan M. Voorhees Transportation Center will evaluate the program's results to help guide future transportation initiatives.
