New Jersey has produced the second-most United States men’s national team World Cup talent of any state since 1930, according to a new study by BetMGM.
The study analyzed every U.S. men’s national team World Cup roster from 1930 through 2022, measuring player appearances, goals scored and wins in World Cup matches.
California ranked first overall, while New Jersey finished second. The study found New Jersey-born players made 69 World Cup appearances, scored two goals and contributed to 17 World Cup victories, the most wins credited to any state.

According to the study, 14 players born in New Jersey have appeared on U.S. World Cup rosters, second only to California’s 23. Missouri ranked third overall.
The report also found that more than half of U.S. states have never produced a World Cup player, while 40 states have never produced a U.S. men’s national team World Cup goal scorer.
