New Jersey communities are marking the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks with memorial services and remembrance ceremonies across the state.

Nearly 3,000 people died in the attacks, including 750 from New Jersey.

Many gathering in Lower Manhattan will remember those killed on Sept. 11, as well as thousands who later died from related illnesses.

In Middletown, a memorial service is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the World Trade Center Memorial Gardens. Middletown lost 37 people in the attacks. The memorial is near the train station where people who worked in the Twin Towers began their daily commute into New York City.

In Woodbridge Township, residents are remembering nine community members who were killed on Sept. 11. A 1.4-mile remembrance walk begins at Inman and Wood avenues at 9:59 a.m., the time the South Tower collapsed. The walk ends at the Colonia Fire Department, where a service is scheduled for 11 a.m.

At Eagle Rock Reservation, memorial wreaths will be placed at the monument and a new American flag will be raised.

In Jersey City, officials will hold a remembrance ceremony at the city's 9/11 Memorial on Grand Street along the Hudson River. Thirty-nine Jersey City residents died in the attacks.

The memorial includes twisted steel from the Twin Towers and stands across the river from Ground Zero. The area also served as a triage location during evacuation efforts from Lower Manhattan. The ceremony begins after 8 a.m.
