Friday mornings are getting a little more positive in Phillipsburg.

Local police officers are kicking off the school day with a simple gesture: a fist bump as part of “Fist Bump Friday.”

Officers greet students as they arrive, sending them into the school building in a good mood.

This week, the tradition made a stop at St. Philip and St. James School. Last Friday, officers were at Phillipsburg Primary School.

The location changes each week, but the goal remains the same: to build positive connections between local police and the kids in the community.

It may be a small gesture, but on a Friday morning, a fist bump can go a long way toward starting the school day on the right note.
