Berry recall expands as Walmart and Trader Joe's products pulled over possible E. coli contamination
A nationwide recall of frozen berries has expanded to include additional Great Value and Trader Joe's products because of possible E. coli contamination.
Frutas y Hortalizas del Sur S.A. announced the expanded recall of certain frozen organic blueberries and berry blends sold at Walmart and Trader Joe's stores.
The affected products include Great Value Organic Triple Berry Blend, Great Value Organic Blueberries and one lot of Trader Joe's Organic Mixed Berry Blend.
The recalled Great Value products were distributed to Walmart stores in 30 states, including Connecticut, New Jersey and New York.
The recalled Trader Joe's product was shipped to stores in 26 states, including Pennsylvania and several neighboring states.
Health officials say E. coli O145 can cause severe stomach cramps, diarrhea that may be bloody and vomiting. In some cases, infections can lead to serious complications, especially in young children, older adults and people with weakened immune systems.
Consumers are being urged not to eat the recalled products and should either throw them away or return them to the store for a refund.
